Easter Dresses

With less than a week to go before Easter, I finally settled on fabric and patterns for my girls' Easter Dresses. My oldest (almost 7) is extremly picky about her clothes. I have made more than a few dresses for her that she has never worn. In fact, last year I made the girls beautiful co-ordinating Easter dresses, and Miss C refused to wear hers. I was so mad, I told her that if she didn't wear it, I would give it away. I was hoping she wouldn't call my bluff, but she did. She told me that she wanted to give it away. So I did. Now when she is really tired or hungy, she starts crying and asking for her dress back. Oops. Sometimes I really deserve a 'bad mommy' award.

But I'm still an optomist (sounds better than a fool), so I let her pick out some fabric for this year's dress. I've got my fingers crossed that she'll actually wear it. But even if she doesn't I won't give it away this year. My youngest daughter (almost 2) is much easier to please. Hopefully I'll actually get to take photos of them wearing them together.

How about a quick give-away? I made an impulse buy at the grocery store the other day, the lastest issue of quilty magazine. As a full disclaimer - I've already read it - but I thought somebody else might like to read it too. It's in very good shape, I promise. And if you leave a comment, and tell me your favourite colour, I'll include a fat quarter or two with the magazine. I'll leave the give-away open until Wednesday, March 27, around lunch time. Thanks to everyone that entered, the give-away is now closed.

Hmmm....

I just saw the announcement for the SMS Give-Away Day next week. I LOVE Give-Away Day (let's just say the kids watch at least one movie that day), and I've been lucky enough to win a few prizes too.

I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not I'll participate this time. Are you joining in? If so, what are you giving away?

My Give-Away Package from May 2010. Granted the bag is pretty ugly, but the fabrics are lovely.

If I do participate, I'm also not sure what I should give away. What do you like to win? Fabric? Something homemade? If so, what?

And finally thank you to all of those who gave great advice about taking pictures from my last post!

Give-Away Winners!

Thanks to everyone for entering the give-away...and for your kind comments. It made my day, well, actually, weekend.

I decided to keep this contest low-key (no announcements on flickr, etc) because I wanted people who actually read my blog to win. I have to say I'm a bit disillusioned with the SMS Give-Away Day but that is another story for another day...

So the winner of the Sandi Henderson FQ pack is #57 Kris who said... Thanks for a great giveaway!

And the winner of the the Hexagon Papers and 2.5" squares is #3 kylydia said... Woo hoo! Congrats on your 100th post!

I'll send you an email right away to get your address! Congratulations.

100 Posts Give-Away!

The Give-Away is now closed. Thank you for entering....I'll have the winners posted soon.

It's taken me awhile (a year and a half), but I've made it to 100 posts. And you all know what that means....a give-away!

So, up for grabs are 4 Fat Quarters from Sandi Henderson's Meadowsweet. This fabric is beautiful, so I thought I'd share.

The second prize is 50, 2.5" squares and a pack of 100 1" Hexagons (die-cut papers). All of the 50 fabrics are different and cut from my stash. I've tried to include some of my favourites, so you'll find a little FMF, a wee bit of Heather Ross, some Amy Butler and Heather Bailey. And a few others too. This should help to get you started on Melanie's Hexagon piece-along!

Let's keep this simple, okay? To win....
  1. Leave a comment on this post.
  2. If you want another chance, become a follower of my blog and leave a second comment. If you are already a follower, leave a second comment to let me know that too.
I'll draw a winner on Sunday, July 11. I'm happy to ship anywhere.

Good Luck!

Give Away Day!

The Give-Away is now closed! Thanks to everyone who entered.

Welcome! I'll keep this short...I know you have a bunch of blogs to visit today. Here's what I have up for grabs:
  • A Petite Drawstring Bag made by moi using the fabulous tutorial from Modify Tradition. I love that blog, don't you? I can't decide if this fabric combination is pretty or just pretty ugly, but I ran out of time to make anything else. And I really needed an excuse to actually cut into my HR stash.
  • 10 Heather Ross 5" Charm Squares. I love these fabrics.
  • And I'll drum up some other little treats to stuff in the bag before I mail it off to you.
So to enter, all you have to do is leave a comment. One entry per person please! I'll leave it open until May 20 and then I'll draw a winner using that Random Number thingy. I'm happy to ship internationally. Thanks so much for entering and Good Luck!

Happy Sewing!

I'm in!

Come back tomorrow for a great chance to win! I'm thinking I'll Modify Tradition for this one....

Give-Away Day

This Give-away is now closed. Thank you to all that entered. The winner will be announced soon.

2009 has been the year of the Doll Quilt for me. I made my first in January for my daughter's Cabbage Patch doll. Since then I've participated in a bunch of swaps. I LOVE Doll Quilts. So I thought I'd keep it going right through the holiday season by giving away....a Doll Quilt!I whipped this up last night and I still haven't decided if I want it crisp or if I should wash it and make in nice and crinkly. So I reserve the right to wash it before I mail it. If you are absolutely opposed to this please let me know in your comment. And I'll throw in a couple of Fat Quarters too.

Leave a comment for an entry to win. Please tell me where you are from and what you want for Christmas. Or just say hi! I'll give followers a second entry so please let me know in a separate comment if you are a follower of if you become one.
I'm happy to ship anywhere in this beautiful world of ours. Winner will be drawn December 6 by that fancy random number generator thingy. Good Luck!

Back at Home...and a couple of wins!

We are finally home after 8 days away at Radium Hot Springs and Calgary. We had a wonderful family vacation and I even got to visit a couple of quilt shops.

When I checked the mail yesterday there were some wonderful goodies there. I was lucky enough to win two give-aways recently and they were both waiting for me.
The first was a pattern from Kelli at Don't Look Now. Her work is absolutely gorgeous. I am thrilled to have one of her patterns and I can't wait to get started on it. Now I just need to practice my quilting....
And the second is an amazing bag from Amie at AmieJ designs. Amie made it with beautiful pink Amy Butler fabrics and I love it! My husband says that it suits me and I can't wait to use it. Amie sells her bags on Etsy and the best part is that she is in Canada. Check out this gorgeous bag made with Denyse Schmidt fabric. Thank you so much Amie!

Double Wedding Ring

I took an amazing full-day quilt course yesterday in a little shop a couple of hours from my house. The pattern was Double Wedding Ring and it was my first attempt at curved piecing. I spent the entire day making this one circle. Wow, I'm slow. I think it will end up a wall hanging for my kitchen. I'm pretty happy with the way it is turning out - it has some of my favourite fabrics in it. But it was also much harder than anything I've sewn before.
My mom watched my kids for me too. Could you ask for a better day? Quilting and free babysitting! It was also the first day I've left my son (he is 14 months) for a whole day and he did amazing. Of course, spending 4 hours at the water park is a good distraction.
And I've decided to join in the Fat Quarter Give-away on the Old Red Barn Quilt Along Flickr group. Here is my offering:

No more sewing for me for the next couple of days as I am expecting 16 kiddos and their parents tomorrow night for my daughter's 3rd Birthday!

Hiya I'm Tacha from the UK but I now live in Berlin, Germany. I am totally obsessed with all fabric. But my daughter is totally obsessed with horses and would absolutely kill for the West Hill fabric. And she is 3 1/2 years old. A perfect fit. So I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

Congrats Natasha! I'm so happy a fellow member of bee inspired won! Since I already have your address, I'll ship your daughter her shirt and fabric right away. And I may even have some of the pink horses for her too...

Thanks again to everyone who entered!

Sew Mama Sew Give-Away!

The give-away is now closed! Thanks for entering. A winner will be posted soon.

It's Give-Away Time! Up for grabs is a Youth Small White T-shirt (should fit a 4 or 5 year old) with a Heather Ross dog appliqued on the front. I machine appliqued him on and I pre-washed it too...Here's that cute little dog. I think he's worried a bigger dog will take his ball. Don't you just love Heather Ross? I've developed an unhealthy obsession. Here's the t-shirt label:
And because you can never have enough Heather Ross, I'm throwing in 2 fat quarters.

Yellow tadpoles in jars:
And green horses. I LOVE the horses.
Give-away open until May 31 at 9pm PST. Winner will be drawn randomly. But so that I can get to know you, let me know your name, where you are from, and what fabric/craft supply you are currently obsessed with. And if you aren't obsessed with fabric or yarn or any other craft supply please let me know how you have avoided it...really I need help!
So here is my example:
Hi, I'm Barb from Beautiful British Columbia, Canada. As you can probably tell, I really love Heather Ross. I love the dogs, I love the horses, I love the little equestrian riders and their clothes. Oh, and I love the little dolls, and the VW vans and the entire Far Far Away...
Good Luck! (and sorry for the dark pictures, it's night-time...)

Charity Quilts...and a giveaway!

I joined my local quilting guild a few months ago and signed up to help organize the charity quilts that we give to local children in care. We are giving the quilts away tomorrow and I quickly made two tops last week so we would have enough.

A zig-zag quilt using Amandajean's no triangle tutorial:

A fun Yellowbrick Road quilt using fabric from my stash. I was trying to make 'boy' quilts as there are many teen-aged boys in care in our town. Another guild member quilted them on her long-arm machine.

I've had the horses since the mid-nineties. It was time to use it up.
And since today is my 30th Birthday I thought I would give something to you. So here are two Amy Butler FQs for you. Just leave a comment with your name, where you are from, and what you would like for your birthday. Winner chosen randomly.
So, I'm Barb, from beautiful British Columbia, Canada. And I would love some of Heather Ross' Far, Far, Away for my birthday. Especially those purple unicorns...wouldn't it be a beautiful dress for my little girl?? Give-away closes Friday, May 22 at 9pm PST.
