I decided to join the local Quilt Guild here in Prince George. Everyone was extremely welcoming at last month's meeting and there were even a couple of members close to my age with young(ish) kids.
The Guild has an Applique Social twice a month - but the nice ladies told me that any kind of hand sewing is just fine. I don't do much hand sewing (I actually have 2 quilts in my house that are currently being used on beds that have only about 75% of the binding sewn on). But I'm in desperate need of some social time.
So last week I printed out some of Melanie's 1" hexes and joined the group. It was fabulous. I got my much needed social time with other women who love fabric and sewing as much as I do. And I got to make some fun hexagons. I may become a hand-sewing convert. And I may have to join Melanie's Quilt Along too.
What about you? Do you like to hand sew? If so, what do you like to make?

Quilt Along, Quilt Along...
Why do you tempt me so???
I just can't resist a good quilt along! So when Julie posted her instructions for the Hexagon Quilt Along, I just had to jump in. A perfect project for my red & aqua stash.
The only problem is that I realized that in my earnest to collect aqua prints, my red stash has really dwindled. And I love red...how did this happen? Does that mean more fabric shopping??? (Must resist, must resist, must resist...)
And, no, I haven't even started my Paint Box Quilt Along yet. But I will. When I get the nerve to open up my Kona Jelly Roll!
Happy Monday!

WIP Wednesday
As I've said before, I'm feeling a wee bit overwhelmed by all the projects I have on the go. To keep me accountable, I've decided to join the wonderful world of WIP Wednesdays to keep me on track. Sorry in advance for the horrible photos. My basement is dark. I dream of a day-light sewing studio!
So here she is...my nine-patch from CrazyMomQuilts 1st round quilt along. I finally got the sashing cut and pinned...I hate cutting sashing along the length of fabric. It makes me nervous.
And I know why I don't like cutting sashing. I always make a mistake! Can you see my oops?
Now I just have to decide if I want to just add a long sashing strip to the right side (then both sides would be a wee bit different) or cut off the sashing strips on the left and add long sashing to both sides. Hmmm...I know what I should do but as always that is more work!
Finally, I got an invoice from this amazing designer from her Studio Sale. And she also emailed to say that it wouldn't fit in an envelope (Yay!). I am so excited to get my goodies in the mail!

ORB Quilt Along
Marianne sent me some photos of my quilt...Here it is in the long-arm machine:
Here is the quilting up close. We chose a pantograph called "Fantasia" - I love it. Marianne quilted it with a pink and brown variegated thread. I'm hoping that the brown will help to tie the brown fabrics in with all the white and pink.

A Star for Donna
Here is the star that I made for Donna for bee inspired.
I think I probably should have reversed the darks and the brights because they seem to compete a bit too much, but overall I'm happy with it. And I'm getting much better at making my blocks a true 12.5" square. Yay.
And my Old Red Barn Quilt is now at Marianne's to be long-arm quilted. Yay! I am so excited to see it....

I won!

I just won FREE long-arm quilting by Marianne Penner Design in Abbotsford, BC for my quilt-along quilt. She offered free long-arm quilting to the first person to email her and I just happened to be online. Yay! I can't believe my good fortune! I'm a few hours away, but with a couple of trips planed to the coast this summer it should work out perfectly.
She has an amazing list of pantographs to choose from....if you want your quilt done, email her at dmpenn@telus.net Check out Marianne's Flickr page (Flickr name: maripenquiltmom).
I'm in...
I couldn't resist.
I joined Old Red Barn's quilt-along. I couldn't resist the chance to win a new sewing machine. And besides that, I'm just a joiner. I like to be part of a group.

I bought my fabrics from Pink Panda Fabrics on etsy.
Dana at Old Red Barn gives more chances to win if you use Paula Prass fabric, so I used some of the money my mom gave me for my birthday to get some new fabric. I recommend Cheryl's Pink Panda Fabrics any day. She really helped me select my fabric, then sent a half yard of a fabric when I only ordered a Fat Quarter. And she also gave really generous cuts and sent some scraps of fabric I didn't order so that I could see what it was like. I was impressed! And better yet, she's in Canada so I saved myself some money on shipping.
I've already cut my strips!
I'm off to sew!
